Old "AD" vs. New "AD"

Postby rleeq » Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:15 am

So I'm running the old version of article dashboard. (installed back in early 06 I think) my memories of the weeks I toiled over getting it installed are not good. I'm definitely not a wizard :cry: when it comes to understanding how to install web site scripts.

I know the answer to this question could be relative but I've got to ask. Just how much hassle is it to upgrade the script to thew new one. :?:

An update to this question;

The answers to these questions may seem obvious to some but I am no wizard and I admit to being confused very easily.

Rather than going for the full install of the new script, I want to opt for the upgrade.

I've just looked at the readme.txt file in the upgrade. So let me see if I've got this straight;
All I have to do is, upload the upgrade files to my directory, making sure that the ioncube directory is loaded to the root directory.

Next, I open my site and the upgrade should work on it's own???

If the runtime files don't work, I open the ioncube-loader-helper.php file and follow the instructions.

So my mind jumps to; How is this going to effect my site as it is before the upgrade.
1. Will I have to go through the design process again?
2. How does the upgrage affect the connection of the site with the database.
3. The is it recommended to install all 4 database patches.

Sorry for the delay R'Lee, been a busy week! What files do you have in your 'upgrade' folder? Let's make sure you need to do this first. Patches are the biggest thing you need to make certain you have Article Dashboard Downloads

No problem: It's not like I'm going to trow up any competition for the big guys in this business any time soon.

I downloaded both files
One is called adupgrade-1-30-2006.zip and the other is called Article Dashboard.zip.

As I'm looking through the adupgrade-1-30-2006.zip I don't see anything that jumps out as a patch file. There are 6 folders and a long list of files.

Oh here is something called dbpatch6.php. There is a file called upgradedb.php Those two are the only ones that fit the profile as far as I can see
Are there any others I should look for?
