Do you mail your lists with good result?
Do you use many affiliate programs?
Do you rely strictly on adsense?
How do you build your traffic and what sort of traffic is it?
(authors or publishers?)

I do not email my authors unless there is some major change in the directory. Once I added about fifteen new categories in a week and thought I'd 'be polite' and let them know... I got no less than twenty emails back about how I was 'spamming' and to 'remove me from this list' etc... THAT freaked me out.

I use about seven to ten affiliate programs, some with better results than others... it seems the programs that cater to authors, publishing, etc... do better than the niche products I place there. (regardless of the niche) What do you think THAT says about traffic?

I would NEVER rely strictly on adsense, but it does aide the income on a directory. I am currently experimenting with ADBrite, has anyone used them successfully?

I HATE kontera (or any other) link highlighting ads and it REALLY messed up the html copy and paste in my scripts production.

I have to admit that I have relied almost solely on organic results. And the traffic has simply built up. While Article Garden has been around the longest, my other directories are starting to play catch up...

How about you guys?

1. Thanks for adding the topic Jodi!

2. My traffic is still light, I guess, getting about 500 uniques a day with ~40,000 pages per month.

3. My #1 source is AdSense as my site is clearly consumer focused. This is supplemented by Amazon revenue that is modest and unpredictable at best. My attempts to leverage affiliates through Linkshare are not working at all - not a payment in 10 mos.. Chitika not working well for me.

4. I have only mailed to the list once and it was a joke. Most mails are b.s. and fully 1/3 are returned with some error message.

5. Traffic has been built by:
- article writing and distribution through AM (when they are up and running
](*,) )
- social bookmarking
- forum posting (light)
- staying in niche
- SEO
- squidoo
- soon to be launched blog/podcast

I use AdSense, Amazon and an affiliate program.

I will honestly say that the income for it so far doesn't really pay for the hosting. :D

After changing the look and making some admin changes hopefully some new life will be brought into it.

I make a bit from everything but not enough to pay for the time I spend with the directory.

I didn't expect that though for at least a while, it takes time to build up solid earnings and I have been concentrating more on getting traffic than selling. The things that are doing well for me are the freebies that have my traffic gaining links in them.

What I plan to do to monetise the site more is produce my own things. I'm at present writing an ebook that will hopefully be finished next week and I have several publications that I created for my ex offline business that can be repurposed for the internet.

I take that back. I've just found out that I referred a sale for XSitePro from the site which nets me 5 months hosting fees. Today has been a great day for everything. 8)

I use adsense on the main site ( content4reprint.com ) with nice results till last week
bidvertiser, linkworth, clicksor and kontera on the others with bad results.

Traffic for the main site is organic, built via web directory submission and social bookmarking.

I do not promote other 2 sites.

Ever thought of a membership article direcotry?

Postby jbolte1976 » Sat Sep 20, 2008 1:21 am

Hi everyone,

I bought my article directory in March and haven't made much of anything. Although my traffic has been growing very nice since then. When I purchased it had a Alexa ranking of about 175k, today I saw it was at 106k and it should be <100k in the next month.

I currently have a survey in my member’s area asking about some added features like: 24 hr guaranteed article review, zero ads, free IM videos, etc. I'm asking if they would feel these would be beneficial to them. I'm also asking if these added features would be worth $7 - $10 / month. To my surprise and delight about 33% out of 77 (about 10 days worth) said they would at least consider trying this for a month or two.

I'm seriously considering turning this into a membership site and flooding the members with some great value added features.

Has anyone else considered this and what are your thoughts on this?

Wow jbolte,

That was one of the first AD sites I designed back in 06! You bought it from Mary? Small world.

I am using a bit of that idea at Sustainable Living Articles... paid fast inclusion. It is working out really well for the authors. I also work hard at keeping a 'featured columnist' this works well also.

I think Alan Graves is doing a complete pay only directory at http://www.website-articles.net/ you might ask him how he's going with it. Last I heard, it was going over nicely for him.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Hi Jodi,

It's a pleasure to make your aquintance. I've heard Mary mention your name before, now that you mention it. Mary has helped me out a ton.

I have actually had email correspondance with Allen, he was very open and explained what I could expect. I thought it looked like it was working out for him.

I am going to change the corner into a membership site, it's just a matter of when (hope fully in the next 8 wks) and what I'm going to include in the membership.

I'll keep you posted as things progress, if you have any ideas or suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I have used adbrite for about 6 months now and have mixed results.
I like their scripts, work well.
I do like the full page ad script and use it for the ezine ready page.
And the however ....
I request no adult ads , auto approve, and get adult ads.
My stats on my site and their stats don't match, page views etc.
I have removed their scripts else where.

I also use bitvertizer, speedyads, entireweb, searchfeed, amazon, and google.
As far as others like affiliate programs, I have a billboard page to help people generate more traffic.

I have a blogger site just for the directory and get great results from there and double up on the adsence from each article.
Post Summaries and links back to the article and author's profile. This works.

wishing you well

I use deeper links into the directory (like author profiles, etc) from the blogs, this does help a lot.

Since the late 1960s the Federal Reserve Board has expanded the growth of money stocks at generally increasing rates. These policies have led to increasing inflation. The key elements in the Fed's failure to chart a noninflationary course are (1) its political composition and (2) its preoccupation with the interest-rate structure. Because Fed terms are so long, no President can exercise significant control over this major determinant of economic policy. The Depository Institutions Deregulation and Money Control Act of 1980 extended the Fed's control over commercial banks and monetization of debt. Congress must deal with the inability of the Federal Reserve System to function as intended. It could assume direct control over monetary growth, or it could bring central banking functions under the control of the President. A final option, and a true institutional reform, would begin with the abolition of the Fed as a policy-making central bank. This would allow the banking system to become competitive and thus innovative and in all likelihood serve consumers better than the Fed has done
